While the following list does not exhaust the dining possibilities in our area, it represents our best picks from personal experience and the experience of our guests. We keep sample menus in the dining room. Reservations are strongly recommended. The concierge will be happy to make all reservations for you. Our reservation cards have clear written directions, too!
We have specialized backpacks for packing a picnic lunch. Our culinary team would love to pack a picnic lunch for you. The cost is $15 per person. We need 24 hours notice. Favorite picnic spots -- along the Rio Fernando heading to Angel Fire, the Wild & Scenic Rivers Area, Taos Ski Valley during fall color, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and the State Park along the Rio Grande near Pilar. We also offer in room candlelight dining. This ultimate luxury is prepared and served by our chef. Click here to see the current menu. We need 72 hours notice. If you cannot take advantage of this option on this trip, consider it for the next one!
We don't have a liquor license so if you'd like to enjoy a drink or wine, your room bar has a wine bottle opener and wine glasses as well as goblets. Smith's and Furr's grocery stores have liquor departments. My suggestion, however, is to drive south on the main road to Bravo Fine Wine, Food and Spirits on Paseo del Pueblo Sur, opposite People's Bank. They have the best selection.

.Apple Tree - Several small dining rooms and a great patio surrounding an apple tree comprise this casual, comfortable restaurant. Good homemade soups, nice entrées and hearty desserts. I particularly like their filet mignon with mushrooms, their mango chicken enchiladas and their shrimp burrito. Beer and wine only. On Bent Street, one block north of Taos Plaza. 758-1900.Bent Street Deli & Cafe - Conveniently located in the heart of Taos's shopping district, this is a great place for a simple lunch or dinner. Sandwiches, quiche, salads, soups and a few dinner specials daily. Beer and wine only. On Bent Street, one block north of Taos Plaza. 758-5787.Bravo Fine Wine, Food and Spirits - A combination store and restaurant. I eat here a lot. A selection of salads, hearty entrees such as chicken quesadillas, lamb stew, steak kabob, killer hamburger with bacon and cheese, soups and desserts. Tables are set out among racks of fine food, wine and liquor. Full bar/package store. Best place to buy a bottle of wine. 1353-A Paseo del Pueblo Sur, across from Peoples Bank. 758-8100. Doc Martin's at the Historic Taos Inn - A changing selection of dishes with emphasis on New Mexican specialties at lunch. Southwestern dining room. Great wine list. Full bar. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located 1/2 block north of Taos Plaza on Paseo del Pueblo Norte. Please note guest experiences indicate some unevenness in the food, particularly with dinner. 758-1977.Eske's Brew Pub and Eatery - A micro-brewery serving light lunches and dinners. Great beer! Try Wanda's Wicked Wheat for a delicious light-colored beer. Beer and wine served. Serving lunch and dinner (fewer hours during winter months). They do specialty menus a few nights a week. I recently sampled the Asian night specials. Yummy! Salmon pot stickers and a killer egg drop soup. Unfortunately the shrimp curry was sold out by the time I arrived. Great outdoor patio in good weather. Between Quesnel Street and Paseo del Pueblo Sur behind Gearing Up bicycle shop. Parking available in Des Georges Mall alley. About a 10 minute walk from the inn. Be forewarned: It's noisy and filled with happy (but noisy) throngs of young people. 758-1517.
La Luna - Excellent pizzas cooked in a wood fired oven, yummy appetizers and pastas and traditional desserts such as panacotta and canollis. Beer and wine only. Around the corner within easy walking distance in Pueblo Allegre Mall. 751-0023.
Lambert's - A great restaurant just around the corner. Menu features nightly specials and some regular favorites but usually includes a sampling of fresh fish, beef, chicken, quail or duck and pork. Lamb is a house specialty. Desserts are worth saving room for! Guests have mentioned how much they enjoyed their meal. Calm dining rooms of intimate proportions. Beer and wine. On Paseo del Pueblo Sur, 75 feet south of the intersection of Los Pandos and the Paseo. 758-1009.Orlando's New Mexican Café - If the number of cars parked outside this restaurant is an indication of its popularity, be assured the food is good and the chile, award-winning. Interior seating is very limited. The outside patio is always jammed. Beer and wine only. On Paseo del Pueblo Norte, about 2.4 miles north of the Plaza on the left-hand side. 751-1450.The Outback - A great pizza place with limited seating. Try the New Mexico Pizza with Smoked Mozzarella, Sausage and Green Chili on Organic hand tossed crust. Beer and wine. Serving lunch and dinner. Take out available. On Paseo del Pueblo Norte opposite Centinel Bank, just beyond an open meadow. 758-3112.
The Stakeout - The perfect New Mexico place. The menu boasts traditional steak but the nightly Chef Specials range form fresh fish to lobster to New Mexican lasagna with a chipotle sauce rather then marinara. The panoramic view of the Mesa and Taos Valley are a must-see. Definitely one of our favorite spots, a favorite of our guests, too, because the food, service and view. Full bar. 5 to 10 pm. On Stakeout Drive six miles south of Taos. 758-2042.Trading Post Cafe - Enormously popular. Food is a la carte with a mix of inexpensive and expensive items, light to hearty. The cuisine is Italian-meets-bistro. They occasionally serve a fabulous paella. The atmosphere is lively with an open grill and food bar in the main room. I prefer the smaller dining rooms because they are quieter. Beware the price of the specials. While I always enjoy the Trading Post Specials, their price can be significantly higher than the regular menu items. Ask before ordering if sticker shock is a concern. Beer and wine only. Open for lunch and dinner. On the east side of Paseo del Pueblo Sur just before the road drops down into Ranchos de Taos. 758-5089.Ranchos Plaza Grill - Traditional New Mexico food in quaint bistro/grill. Located on the Plaza in Rancho de Taos. A perfect stop when visiting the San Francisco de Asis Church. Open for lunch.
